Okay, let’s be real, we all have days where we’d rather order in pizza and watch some reality TV, than go to the gym or workout in general. So getting yourself into the gym can often be a struggle. Today I want to share my tips on how I find motivation to stay fit!
Tip #1: Take a Class
There is something about having an instructor who keeps you focused and accountable to show up to the workout. I love Pure Barre classes especially because of their low impact yet effective style of workouts. The instructors are there to motivate and guide you. Plus if you’re like me, you’re more likely to keep your form even if your legs are burning when there’s 13 other women with you. I find having a room full of people pushes you to do your best and not give up. Another class I love taking is yoga. I started yoga in the fall of 2016 and have not looked back. I start almost every Saturday with a 8:45 yoga class. It keeps me from sleeping in way too late and gets my weekend off to a productive start. I also love the way it releases built up tension that I didn’t even know I had. After a long stressful week, stretching out and getting your blood flowing is the perfect way to start your Saturday.
Tip #2: Have Good Workout Clothes
If your leggings are itchy and your top is way too tight, chances are you’re not going to be very motivated to go get in a workout or perform your best. Finding stylish and fun workout clothes you feel confident in, will get you excited to go to the gym. My favorite brands for workout clothes are Lulu Lemon and Adidas.
Tip #3: Your Playlist
I think the music you listen to is just as important as the clothes you wear. I know I’ve found a really good playlist when I want to go workout just by listening to it. Here are a few of my top picks on Spotify, Hiit-Pop, Electro Workout, and Sezzy Sounds: SWEATY.
Tip #4: Find a Friend
You’re much more likely to go workout after a long day at work or school if you’ve got a friend counting on you. I’m a twin, and surprisingly, my sister and I are usually not on the same page when it comes to working out. So when one of us is less motivated, the other will keep us accountable to keep our goals and go exercise. We also love putting each other through workouts (kind of like a personal trainer, but together) they’re usually pretty tough and we always have a ton of fun!
Tip #5: Go for a Walk
Some days I’m simply too tired to do anything, so I grab my sister and our dog and we go for an hour walk or so. Our dog loves this and it’s always great to chat with my sister while getting some fresh air! If you don’t have anyone to go on a walk with, turn on a podcast or your favorite playlist instead.
Tip #6: Switch it Up
It can be incredibly easy to fall into a routine, and even easier to get bored with your routine. This is why I’m constantly switching up my workout as well as the location. I love doing Sweaty Shredders and Toning Powers from the Sweat it to Shred it e-book at home. I also alternate doing plyometric and weight lifting workouts to keep me interested. This year I made a goal to myself to start running more. I used to love running but have fallen out of my habit since. Sprints are a great way to get up your heart rate and break a sweat!
Tip #7: Reward Yourself
I’m a big fan of protein smoothies and bowls. I only allow myself to have one after a workout, it keeps me accountable from eating 3 smoothie bowls a day (lol)!
I hope this helped you find some motivation to workout, and I’d love to know what some of y’all do to stay motivated!
