I feel like I say this every month, and will continue saying it, wow has the month flown by! January is always a special month, the new year gives people a fresh start and mindset. Although every day is a new start, I think there is just something special about a new year and the possibilities it brings! This month also happened to be the start of my second Whole30 (more like first since I may or may not have dropped out on day 7 the first time, you can read more on why I did in my simple easy Whole30 meals post.
This time around Whole30 has gone amazing and I feel great! In January I also picked up running and have loved every moment of it! When I first started running I noticed my feet would feel very swollen and tingly so I decided to invest in a good pair of running shoes and haven’t looked back since. They are so lightweight, comfortable and easy to run in. The tread on the bottom of these shoes makes them perfect for long distance and outdoor running. I think that your gear really affects your overall opinion on running and if you haven’t liked running in the past it could have just been a bad pair of shoes.
After long runs I’ll reward myself with a chocolate sea salt RX Bar and Harmless Harvest coconut water. I have been obsessed with these bars since they taste identical to a chocolate brownie and I love anything with sea salt! But I limit myself since Whole30 advises you don’t abuse the RX Bars (we’ve all been there). And the reason I love this coconut water is because it’s pink! Apparently some coconuts are naturally pink and their water has a more distinct and sweet taste unlike typical coconuts. Coconut water is also packed full of electrolytes perfect for after a hard run or workout!
Continuing on the topic of beverages, decaffeinated earl grey tea has been a staple in my tea cupboard (along with matcha) this month! I’ve always adored milky black tea’s and after our trip to Switzerland and Paris, I fell back in love with earl grey. I swear I called the poor stewardess over at least five times during our flight just for a black tea with cream (oops.) Since cream is not allowed on the Whole30, I’ve been drinking my tea with a dash of almond milk and a few ice cubes!
This month I’ve kept my skin care routine minimal and effective! For moisturizer I’ve been obsessed with Clinique’s moisture surge gel cream. Its gel like texture leaves a smooth matte finish to my skin and I love the intense surge of moisture it gives my skin without the greasy and tacky feel. For makeup Erborian’s cc crème has been my go to in place of foundation. I have pretty clear skin for the most part and just a bit of discoloration and redness so this cc crème is perfect! It allows my skin to breathe while still giving a lot of coverage and its incredible skin matching technology allows this wonderful cream to match your skin tone! You heard me right, it goes on white and as you buff it into your skin it magically matches the color of your skin. This is going to be perfect for summer when you’re constantly in between shades and don’t want to have to by 5 different shades to get you through August!
I have truly immersed myself in podcasts this month and have a ton of new favorites! Glorious in the Mundane with Christy Nockels is sweet, inspiring and her love for the Lord radiates in each podcast. The guests are all incredibly interesting and wise and I really love the set up and flow of each podcast. Go listen to season 2 ep30 and let me know what you think! My last favorite for the month Is the Breathing Room devotional book by Sandra Stanley. If you’re anything like me and find yourself overwhelmed by busy schedules, draining to-do lists and pushing aside time with your loved ones, this is the devotional book for you! It’s a 28 day devotional series where you tackle the source of what’s taking your breathing room in fears, money time and relationships. As well as how to find that breathing room again and trusting Jesus with your life and schedule.
